2. Ensuring that patients prescribed with nicotine liquid are aware on the risks of incorrect dilution and nicotine exposure to skin, eyes and ingestion especially in children.

CONSIDERATION BEFORE PRESCRIBING

Prescribing Therapeutic Nicotine Vaping Systems (TNVP)
Only Doctors can prescribe TNVPs > 20 mg/mL,
Pharmacists can prescribe TNVPs < 20 mg/mL

SIDE EFFECTS & PHARMACODYNAMIC INTERACTIONS

Rationale:

1. Therapeutic Nicotine Vaping System are not risks free but is a safer alternative to smoking.

2. When using nicotine vaping systems, it is another means of delivering nicotine and replicates the smoking habit and sensations without most of the toxins from tobacco burning.

3. Vaping is meant to be used as a short-term quitting aid or a continued long-term effort if it is preventing relapse to smoking.

Proper usage of TNVPs:

1. When there is an urge to smoke or to relieve withdrawal symptoms

2. Take in a long and slow puff, approximately between 3 to 4 seconds each.

3. Take between 10 to 12 puffs as if you are smoking a cigarette or have a puff or two when needed.

Advice:

1. Coughing is noticeable at the start; it will usually subside after a week.

2. The most common side-effects are throat or mouth irritation, slight coughing, headache and possible nausea. These reactions are normal, yet it differs from individual and will settle over time.

3. Vape responsibly and courteously, only within a permitted area and away from a family-oriented venue/setting.

4. Increase the nicotine concentration or puff frequency if you are experiencing any urges to smoke

Duration of Use:

1. Stop smoking as soon as possible.

2. Try to stop vaping within 3 – 6 months.

Nicotine Safety:

1. Keep out of reach of Children

2.Product cannot be consumed orally/swallowed

3. Avoid contact with the eyes

4. Avoid contact with the skin

Device Handling and Safety:

1. Keep out of reach of children and away from pets.

2. Always ensure that AIRSCREAM TNVPs is stored below 25C.

3. Do not place or store AIRSCREAM TNVPs in any hot, humid or wet environment or near any combustible or explosive materials.

4. Do not expose the device to heat, cold, dampness or direct sunlight.

5. Store device securely and separate from food and beverage and any medical products.

Clinical Notes:

Documentation required when prescribing:

1. A brief/summarized clinical justification for prescribing TNVPs

2. Proof of explanation of the benefits and risks, obtain informed consent (preferably in writing)

3. Any adverse reaction towards the TNVPs treatment is experienced by the patients during follow-up consultation, you may submit a report of these instances to the TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administrations)
